01What this policy covers.

This privacy policy applies to pingthings.io, the website you are reading right now. It explains what we collect when you visit, how we use that information, and the rights you have over it.

It does not cover our software product, PredictiveGrid, which is governed by separate agreements with the customers who deploy it. If you operate a PredictiveGrid instance and have questions about how data is handled inside the platform, please refer to your master services agreement and data processing addendum, or contact your account representative directly.

02What we collect.

We try hard to collect as little as possible. In practice, this comes down to three categories.

Server logs

When you load any page on this site, our hosting provider Netlify automatically records standard server log information: your IP address, browser type and version, the page you requested, the time of the request, and the referring URL. This is the same information any web server records by default. We use it for security and debugging. Not for tracking individuals.

Aggregate analytics

We use Plausible Analytics to understand how visitors use the site at a high level: which pages are most read, where traffic comes from, roughly which countries visitors are in. Plausible was specifically chosen because it does not use cookies, does not track individuals across sites, and does not collect personally identifiable information. Aggregate counts only.

Information you send us

If you fill out a contact form on the site, send an email to one of the addresses listed in our footer or on our team page, or otherwise reach out to us, we receive whatever information you choose to share: typically your name, email address, and the contents of your message. We use this information to respond to you. That's all.

What we don't collect. No cookies for tracking. No advertising or remarketing pixels. No fingerprinting. No third-party social media trackers. No behavioral profiling. No purchasing of marketing data.

03How we use it.

We use the information described above for a small set of purposes:

  • To operate the website: serving pages, debugging issues, defending against abuse and security incidents.
  • To understand aggregate usage: making editorial and product decisions based on which content visitors find useful.
  • To respond to you: replying to inquiries, providing the information you asked for, scheduling conversations.
  • To comply with legal obligations: when applicable law requires us to retain or produce specific records.

We do not use any of this information for advertising, profiling, automated decision-making, or any commercial purpose other than those listed above.

04Third-party services.

We rely on a small number of third-party services to operate this site. Each one is listed below with a description of what it does and a link to its own privacy policy.

Netlify
Hosts the website and processes any contact-form submissions. Sees standard server log data for every request.
netlify.com/privacy
Plausible Analytics
Provides cookie-free, privacy-focused aggregate analytics. Does not collect personal data and does not track individuals across sites.
plausible.io/privacy
Google Fonts
Serves the Inter, Fraunces, and JetBrains Mono typefaces used on the site. When your browser loads a font file, Google receives standard request data including your IP address.
policies.google.com/privacy

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight Tag, or any similar tracking tool on this site.

05Cookies.

This website does not set tracking cookies. Plausible Analytics, our analytics provider, is specifically designed to operate without cookies. We do not have advertising cookies, social-media cookies, or third-party tracking cookies of any kind.

Your browser may store ordinary technical state for the site (for example, remembering whether you've collapsed or expanded a section), but we do not use this information for tracking.

06How we share data.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone, ever. We share information only in the following narrow circumstances:

  • With service providers: the third-party services listed in section 04, each of which processes data on our behalf under their own privacy commitments.
  • When legally required: to comply with a valid subpoena, court order, or other legal process. We will challenge overly broad demands where we believe doing so is appropriate.
  • To protect rights and safety: if we have a good-faith belief that disclosure is necessary to investigate fraud, prevent harm, or enforce our agreements.
  • In a corporate transaction: if PingThings is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. The acquiring entity would be required to honor the commitments in this policy.

07How long we keep it.

We retain information only as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy.

  • Server logs are retained by Netlify according to their standard retention schedule (typically 30 days).
  • Aggregate analytics from Plausible are retained for as long as we use the service. Because Plausible does not store personal information, this data is not personally identifiable.
  • Email and form submissions are retained as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry, plus a reasonable additional period for record-keeping. We periodically delete correspondence that is no longer relevant.

If you would like us to delete a specific email or form submission you sent us, contact us using the information in section 14 and we will do so unless we are required by law to retain it.

08Security.

We use standard, industry-accepted measures to protect the limited information we hold: encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all traffic, access controls on internal systems, and reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

If you become aware of a security issue with this website, please report it to info@pingthings.io.

09Your rights.

Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights over the information we hold about you. These commonly include:

  • The right to access: to ask what information we hold about you.
  • The right to correction: to ask us to correct inaccurate information.
  • The right to deletion: to ask us to delete information we hold about you.
  • The right to portability: to receive a copy of your information in a portable format.
  • The right to object: to object to certain types of processing.

Because we hold so little personally identifiable information about website visitors in the first place, most of these requests will be satisfied very quickly. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information in section 14. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any privacy right.

10California disclosures.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), gives you specific rights regarding personal information.

Categories of information we collect

In the past twelve months, we have collected the following categories of personal information from website visitors: identifiers (such as IP address), internet or other electronic network activity information (such as pages visited and referring URL), and any information you voluntarily provide through forms or email.

"Sale" or "share" of personal information

We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA. We do not exchange personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration, and we do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Your CCPA rights

  • The right to know what personal information we have collected about you.
  • The right to delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.
  • The right to limit use of sensitive personal information (we do not currently collect sensitive personal information from website visitors).
  • The right to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the information in section 14. We will verify your request through reasonable means before responding.

11International visitors.

PingThings is based in the United States, and our website is hosted on infrastructure located primarily in the United States. If you visit this site from outside the United States, the limited information we collect (described in section 02) will be processed in the United States and may be subject to United States law.

If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another jurisdiction with similar data protection laws, you have rights under those laws (including the rights described in section 09) and you may contact us to exercise them. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe we have not complied with applicable law.

12Children.

This website is intended for a professional audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16, where that is the applicable age under local law). If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

13Changes to this policy.

We may update this privacy policy from time to time: for example, to reflect changes in the services we use, in applicable law, or in our own practices. When we make material changes, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.

For substantial changes that affect how we handle information you have already provided, we will take reasonable steps to notify you directly where we are able to do so.
